MIND GOLF

My brother’s great book

I was talking to my brother Bob the other day.  He's been a golfer practically all his life and travelled the world competing as an amateur and then as a pro.  Over those many years perhaps his best friend and golf buddy was the great Moe Norman, who many people say had the most natural skill of anyone who has played the game, maybe ever.  Moe and Bob used to practice together for months on end, hitting thousands and thousands of balls, mainly in Florida. Bob Young They'd known each other from their earliest days in Canada.  Moe never talked much, but his ability to hit the ball exactly where he wanted it to go, time after time, was uncanny.  Bob would watch and analyse what it was that created great shots, not just for Moe, but for himself too.  Moe used to say it was all in the mind and as long as you didn't think too much when you stepped up to the ball, you could do it every time.

Bob's retired now, but he's written a book called Mind Golf which follows his friendship with Moe Norman and offers a lot of insight into how energy and creativity combine to produce great golf.  You can buy it in our NY Archives store, either in print or the audio book and a portion of every sale will go to The Bridge School.   The audio version has Bob's original song "Hey, America".  We played on it together.  It was fun.  He swears it came about using the same kind of energy that it takes to hit a good golf shot.

That's a lot of what our talk was about… what it takes to hit a ball, or write a song.  The final goal might be different, but the force of creative energy it takes to do either comes from the same place and is on the same track.

He's a smart guy, my brother Bob.  I hope you like the book.  Here's part of our chat…
