LIVE THE OLD MAGIC
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Greetings Neil, looking forward to the chrome hearts tour. I get to live the magic once again with my dad. We’ll see you in the pit in Cleveland.

P.S. we don’t even care what you play. Make it new, old, and loud! Just glad you’re going back out.

Thanks
See you there

TICKETMASTER HURTS FANS
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Please tell Neil that using the Ticketmaster Fair price re-sale of tickets option BADLY hurts the fans. This is because we are not given the option to sell tickets for LESS than what we paid. So what happens is, if the show is NOT sold out, Ticketmaster will list tickets for a lower price than originally listed and we will never be able to sell our tickets which SUCKS!!!!! I know the intention is to protect the fans, but in REALITY it winds up hurting the fans!!!! PLEASE DON'T DO THIS! Some of us pointed this out the last time Neil did this. It really hurts us!!!!!!!

I am asking management to give me an opinion on this!
it sucks.
Love neil

‘Fair Price’ is a program set up for you to be able to re-sell your tickets for the price you paid not for more or less than the amount you paid. Thanks, Frank -Management

STANDING TALL
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Neil Young!

I am so thankful for you, The Archives, The Contrarian, your stories, your music, for ALL that you have done over the years. I must confess that I was crumbling for a bit, with all that is happening EVERYWHERE. But, standing tall and moving forward in LOVE now. Thank you for the info in The Contrarian—concrete, specific steps to take have been very helpful. Whoever thought of music of Neil Young … fundraiser for The Bridge School … GREAT idea! I am anxious for the chance to see you this year, but please, please, don't overdo it!! Take care of yourself.

With much love from Auntie Jean

Thanks Auntie Jean

Dear Neil, Have you recorded an acoustic solo version of Chevrolet? And if so, would you consider sharing it with NYA subscribers as an "outtake"?

Best regards Bjarne, Vestland, Norway

JIFFY LUBE LIVE
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Is this where I write a letter to Neil?

If so: So excited you will be touring this summer. It is probably much too late to ask this—but if you will be playing the Washington D.C. area I BEG you NOT to play Jiffy Lube Live. The venue itself is quite nice, but it is an absolute nightmare to get into before the show, and even worse trying to leave the venue after the show—it takes HOURS to get out of there!!! While Merriweather Post Pavilion is a little smaller (holds less people), it is a much nicer place to experience a concert. Thanx for listening!

We are not playin that. Thanks for saying!

Thanks for letting us know… will keep that in mind for future reference. thanks, Frank-Management

SEE YOU THERE!
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Hi Neil,

Haven't written to you in a long while, but your music and art remains a constant companion.

Archives Vol III is so rich and deep, I'm still absorbing all its treasures. I love that you chose to include the lo-fi audio recordings collected on Snapshot in Time and Union Hall. They have a texture that is reminiscent of old sepia photographs. I love listening to the hi-res files of these recordings with my headphones—when I close my eyes I feel like I'm there. I also love the clarity of the Across The Water discs and the Boarding House discs. Speaking of the latter, the recording of "Shots" is so brilliant, it might well be my all-time favourite song of yours. It certainly remains relevant in these horrible times of war and suffering.

I'm looking forward to the Chrome Hearts release. And hopefully see you in the UK.

MEDIA FREE INFOCARDS
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Hi Neil—

This idea is so ridiculous that it's great! Folks like me always ask for outtakes that you don't like to hear. Would you consider adding media-free info cards so we know when and what happened that didn't make the cut? Why should we have to rely on Jimmy Mac's book to know about the crap Crazy Horse sessions from early ’84 at the Ranch with Mazer or in NYC w/Briggs? Maybe you could make the info cards with the dates and the guilty parties and a stamp or note saying “aborted." You could even add a sticky note with all the bad vibes. We don't have to hear it, but it's history. For that matter, lyrics from songs never recorded could be handled this way as well. If this idea really sucks, it might be perfect for John to sink his teeth into. Any of the Johns. You know them all!!

Thanks, Omar

I’ll check Omar

How come Winnipeg got snubbed with the Chrome Hearts tour? You cancelled the show last summer and promised to re-book.

HIDEAWAY
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Dear Neil and Daryl

In my previous notes, I wanted to be careful not to broadcast your hideaway. There is no doubt that you have visited the nearby ROCKS THAT TEACH. It took me 16 years from my first visit to the site to earn four days on the rock with a fourth-degree 90-year-old Midewin shaman from Alberta who could read it. In part two of my book, CHASING THE MUSE: CANADA, I describe how painstaking it was to make the film THE TEACHING ROCKS.

There was some controversy about my making the film, both by the government and the shaman. Luckily, it won the top prize at the American Indian Film Festival in San Francisco and got me to lecture at UCLA. Every time I watch it, I still learn something. Oddly, in that journey I came an unusual prophecy. After that vision, Steve Stills brought me into the pre-show huddle with you, Graham, and David.

The government ordered me to remove my films from YouTube, so I changed the title to THE ROCKS THAT TEACH, a more direct translation from Ojibwe. It is back on. You will also enjoy my film The Winter Camp.

I requested the Chief of Curve Lake to revisit the rocks on the rock and possibly the other primary site, which was always covered up after a ceremony. I was told it has a message for today’s people. The old man advised me to wear my rabbit dancing boots.

I wish you both strength for the journeys ahead. Lloyd Walton Lake Muskoka

Thanks Lloyd

MINNEAPOLIS
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Hi Neil, big fan from Minneapolis. I've seen you play all over the country over the years, and am excited for the tour announcement! I heard rumors about a possible Minneapolis (Shakopee) date. I see that the tour was announced here without MN. But I see that Consequence of Sound has a MN date listed, and there is a gap in the tour dates here on NYA. I was just curious if there is any validity to a Minneapolis date happening? I don't see a Minnesota date listed on Rolling Stone's announcement, so I was hoping to clarify before the pre-sale tomorrow if possible. Cash has been a bit tight lately, so if there is a MN date coming I'd rather stay local if possible this time around. Cheers, looking forward to hearing more of the new music! 😁

Dan I was told the by management outdoor Venue we planned on playing would not be completed this year.

UK DATES HYDE PARK?
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Hi Neil, hope this finds you well

Your tour mentions Europe and the UK but there isn't a UK date?

I appreciate you have already booked to play Glastonbury, but traditionally Glasto sells out within hours every year without any acts being disclosed, so there is no chance any NY fans can see you there unless by chance.

Im hoping it is an oversight or a mistake on my part and a UK date will be announced.

Cheers my old friend through life Carl

RICK - LOVE AT LARGE
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Thank you for the concert dates, Neil!

I mentioned on the Reprise page, I wish I had met you when you were the fabulous Rick in Alan Rudolph's Love at Large. I watched it recently after not having seen it in ten years or so. I LOVED it! It's on Prime. Your talents are astonishing!

Thanks! I’ll check it out again…..

UK
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Hi Neil

I'm gutted that you aren't playing in the UK on the European leg of your tour. OK so you are playing Glastonbury, but that doesn't count, as the tickets sell out months in advance before anyone knows who is playing, and so it certainly isn't for your fans over here. Surely you can fit in a date for your real fans here in the UK?

Thanks for listening All the best Mike

SAD
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Hi again Neil. Sad that you didn't include Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park on your upcoming tour. The Park owner would welcome you, I know for a fact. So, I look forward to seeing you on August 8th in Charlotte. I went shopping for tickets today, aware that the fan presale is this Friday. I thought that you would be interested to know that while Ticketmaster is not yet selling tickets, Vivid Seats offered me two tickets in Pav. Level 6, Row DD for $511.78 and TicketsCenter.com offered me two tickets in Pav. Level 7 Row DD for $802.00. WTF. How are these websites able to offer tickets before they go on sale to fans and to the general public via Ticketmaster? You of all people should stop this madness. Music heals but greed kills.

Love you, Ross

Ross
Greed is a big problem.
I have no idea what you are describing but i am telling management. Touring sucks these days. it used to be fun. now its all about scalping and money. That’s a lot of what I hear about.

NORTH BAY
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

I was recently forwarded some ads for previously unknown solo shows of yours in late November & early December 1965 at a coffee house called the Second Stage in North Bay, Ontario on Lake Nipissing. This would have been after the Squires, just after your New York City Elektra demos and just before The Mynah Birds. Does that spur any memories? Not much known about your solo coffeehouse shows between the Squires and the Springfield.

Thanks, Tom

No memories of that.

GREAT SEATS!
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Dear Neil,

I just got my tickets for the August 17th show in Toronto. Two great seats near the mixing board so there will be lots to take in during the performance. Hopefully no late day thunderstorms this time around.

Have a great European tour and looking forward to seeing you and the Chrome Hearts (great name) in Toronto.

THE DAMN TRUTH
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Hi Neil, nice to see you are going to be out on the road again. So far there doesn't seem to be any UK shows. But that is fine from my point of view. I made the decision a while back, to only go to small venues, where I can see the artist rather than a screen.

But I am writing to suggest you speak to "The Damn Truth" if you haven't yet got a support act. A Canadian band that I am sure you are aware of. The lead singer is a lady that reminds me of Janis Joplin.

Good luck with your travels. Hendo

Great name for a band!!!!!

CAMDEN NJ
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Hi Neil, I hope you're doing well. I saw you and Crazy Horse in Camden, NJ last year. What a great show!

Could you please consider putting a stop in back in Camden, NJ on the tour calendar or at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia? We love you in the Delaware Valley you and the Chrome Hearts will be sold out like always. We need the Summer of Democracy in the birthplace of Independence!

May God continue to bless you Neil Young! Your friend, Richard J. Oliva

Neil, thank you for building that unique presale opportunity for us annual archive members. That was one of the better presales I've experienced by far from any artist. You truly did give us access to the best seats for 48 hours without any issues. Thanks again, see you in Cleveland, in the pit!!!

LIGHT UP THE BLUES
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Hi

I’m excited to buy tickets for the Light Up the Blues. Sadly, the tickets to the public go on sale this Friday February 28 which is the economic blackout and I am not quite sure that Neil knew or knows that his tickets through Ticketmaster, which is a huge corporation are on sale Friday to the public. Just wondering how Neil wants all of his fans to handle this little snag. If you could let me know, I would greatly appreciate it as I’m really excited to go and support Light Up the Blues as I have every year it’s happened.

Thank you LeeAnn Paddock

LEE ANN So sorry about this. I dont know about this show’s business. I just do it for the cause. But I am telling my management —— although now it's too late! Love neil Be well

Sorry about this mistake, there a plenty of good seats available now.  Thanks, Frank - management

NEVER 51 !!!
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Hi Neil

The President keeps shooting his mouth off about Canada becoming the 51st state. Any thoughts?

A Forever Proud Canadian

*  *  *

Further to my previous email, I would love it if you would post the comments of the Canadian Soccer Team coach, Jesse Marsch (an American) about the 51st state rhetoric on the NYA Contrarian. Smart, articulate and he says exactly what Canadians have been hoping more Americans would have the balls to speak up and say. Shouldn’t be too hard to find but you can find it on TSN’s social media pages.

MASS
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

The Law of Conservation of Mass.

We are comprised of matter. An energy that is neither created nor destroyed. It just is.

So what is love if not simply a substance or a chemical reaction to the world or your surroundings..

Equilibrium. Yin Yang. Contrast. Centre.

Who knows better of love? A person who has depth in experiencing pain, or a person who has received an abundance of warmth and embrace?

There’s no light without darkness, and freedom is an illusion of cognitive dissonance for those lucky enough to believe in its right to the human will. That we are here to love, but surely not without my Nikes and iPhone to feel sad about it, too.

SPOONER OLDHAM
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Hey Neil,

Really great to hear that Spooner Oldham will be joining you on the upcoming Love Earth tour! I'm hoping to hear some of his recognizable keyboard parts from Harvest Moon and other appearances, as well as to hear what he has to add to some of your other great songs.

This might be a question for the NYA team but I'm wondering if you would consider using a heavier material for the shirts on the upcoming tour. I know you emphasize the importance of organic material, however, I bought one of them at the show last year and it is really thin and has already started wear out. I know a lot of artists use Comfort Colors or Gildan Hammer which seem to be heavier and more substantial shirts that last longer!

Thanks, Otis
