Hi Neil and crew at NYA and Times Contrarian,
This is to express my supreme disappointment at your insistence on including "both sides" of the political spectrum in your T-C article selection. As one of the first articles published with the "View from the Right" tag demonstrates, this misguided desire to share "balanced" reporting only invites bad faith misinformation onto the site.
The article "NCAA Had the Power to Keep Men Out of Women's Sports this Whole Time" spreads deeply transphobic and anti-scientific perspectives about the lives, intentions, and behavior of transgender athletes. It implies that men pretend to be women in order to gain athletic acclaim and calls them "men in ladyface.” This is no more than bigoted hate speech, and not real reporting.
If Neil's music is supposed to be inclusive, and the Archives a place where anybody can come to share their perspectives and read some thoughtful writing while listening to great music, it cannot include articles that are designed to shame and exclude human beings for living their lives. I routinely share my love of Neil's music with my trans friends and am ashamed to think that one of them might join the archives only to be faced with such hateful language that condemns their identity.
These "social problems" that the right wing responds to change with the seasons, but are always underwritten by hate. Publishing this article is akin to sharing an article that claims gay men shouldn't be allowed to play sports, or black men shouldn't be allowed to play sports. These articles in the past have all cherry-picked vanishingly rare occurrences to justify their hateful claims, just as the article you have shared does. You must see the similarities, and I beg you to respond sensibly. For every case of a female athlete feeling unsafe in a bathroom with a transgender woman, or every claim that a sports-related injury only happened because of the action of a transgender woman, there are dozens and dozens of cases of transgender men and women being brutalized and killed by violence caused by hate and fear. Those are real stories that you should be publishing, not this hate propaganda masquerading as journalism.
Thanks for your time reading this, and I pray you do the right thing and remove this article.
Best,
Daniel, a life-long Neil Young fan and a believer that love conquers hate.
Daniel you are right my friend. IT’S GONE….
i have stopped it. Bad idea. Crazy times!! I sometimes have bad ideas! I thought both sides was good but things are so out of balance we need to stand up for what we believe in, and just do that, for the time being.
love Neil
be well
