For as long as I can remember, one of my favorite songs has been “Cowgirl in the Sand” – a song filled with music and lyrics that evoke mystery and beauty.

When it comes to my work, I’m often asked, “What does it mean?”, or “What is it supposed to be?”. Art is a form of communication. Sometimes it’s direct – like a painting of a plate of fruit. You see it and immediately know what it represents.

Often, however, art leaves things to the viewer’s interpretation. That’s my favorite kind to create and to view. I like paintings that leave things to be discovered each time they are visited – much like the song from which this one takes its name. Sometimes it’s good to “play this game”, taking a trip into images, words, and emotions for a while, and emerging with your own personal message.
